Tahquitz Canyon Hike

Today we did a hike through Tahquitz Canyon outside of Palm Springs. Tahquitz Canyon is one of many sacred Indian grounds on the Agua Caliente Reservation, is known for it's 60' waterfall and is rich in ancient artifacts and art.
The waterfall flows best during spring run off but was still a worthwhile gift at the end of the trail.
The sight and smell of the fall foliage in the Canyon was unexpected and made the contrasting landscape even more enjoyable.

Scenic Highway 74 to Idyllwild

Took a drive south to Idyllwild, California on December 12th.
Wish I would have taken more photos. The landscape changes quickly and dramatically on the 50km drive into the mountains. From desert, to cedar forest and a mixture in between in less than an hours drive.

Living Desert

We visited the Living Desert on December 9th.
I honestly usually have a hard time visiting zoos. They just make me sad. But the Living Desert had very large, "natural" feeling living quarters for all of their fury guests.

I don't know what it is about the desert landscape...but I just love it. There is something so majestic and mysterious. No it's not green...but it is beautiful.

I wish I would have had my zoom lense to better capture this playful cheetah way up in the hills.

On the Road Again...

Wow...it's well over a year since my last post. Where does the time go?!?
There was no winter get away last year...so that has a lot to do with it.
But this year we find ourselves in sunny Palm Desert, California.
We are here for 2 months and this is the first time we have left in December and will be away from home for Xmas.

We left home on November 28th and found our way out of the snow and cold on the first leg of the drive south.

Day 1 - Edmonton to Helena, Montana

Day 2 - Helena, Montana to Provo, Utah

Day 3 - Provo, Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada

Which included a stop at Counts, Kustoms...No Danny wasn't there!

Day 4 - Las Vegas, Nevada to Palm Desert, California

We hadn't realized that we were traveling on the Thanksgiving long weekend and after sitting on the I15 for almost 2 hours and only making it 1/2 hour out of Vegas we turned around and took the scenic route through the desert.
